I recently came across an awesome blog I just loved. But I could tell you 2 seconds in that she was NOT optimizing herself or her blog (which was a shame because her ideas were awesome!). You pour your heart into your blog but a few simple oversights can really affect your success.
Here are a few things to check your blog for:
About Me I want to know you are. A picture. Do you have kids? Do you work (outside of blogging) Let me know who is writing these posts I love!
Contact Info A contact form, email, something! I wanted to email this blogger and had literally no way other than a public comment to do so.
Comments Please, please, PLEASE make your comment NOT require a word capture. It’s loathed universally. Check your settings. Now.
Social Media I know, I know…some of you are all about Google Friend Connect (GFC). I get it, I was there. But guess what? NO brands ask you for your GFC following. They ask for your Facebook fans, Twitter followers, Instagram followers, etc. Please set up a Facebook page for your blog, twitter would be great too! Connect with your readers and stop worrying about that GFC number on your sidebar, in fact you’d be better served to take it off completely and put an email or feed subscription option there instead.
Pictures If your blog post space is 600 pixels wide PLEASE use pictures 500-600 wide. No teeny tiny dark pictures that take up a quarter of your blog width…I don’t even bother to look at those, you can’t see anything! (I’ll have a beginner picture tutorial coming up soon.)
That’s all for today…what are your thoughts? Have you checked your blog for these simple things?
